Heartfelt Micro Wedding with Midsommar Inspired Greenery

Lush greenery wedding ceremony arch

Luis and Shane got married a year into the pandemic. It’s crazy looking back now and writing this because that feels like a decade ago, but yesterday at the same time. Luis works in public health, and at the time Covid was starting to ramp up again, so out of precaution and for the safety of their loved ones, he and Shane decided to downsize their wedding. This was a tough decision so many of my clients had to make. Intimate weddings are always so special, but there were a few key moments from Luis and Shane’s wedding that will stick with me forever: their quiet morning getting ready together and listening to voice messages from loved ones not in attendance, the moment right after their wedding ceremony and their first dance and dances with their moms at their reception.

Let me explain what you see playing out below while my two sweet grooms + their adorable pup Penny were getting ready together (I LOVE when my couples get ready together!). Since they had to downsize, many of their friends weren’t able to make it to celebrate their wedding. But Shane wanted to make sure Luis still felt the love of their friends near and far. When Shane told me he was going to surprise Luis with some voice messages from their friends before we went out to do portraits, I wasn’t expecting a fully produced Spotify podcast-type production. I was so impressed. To this day, this is one of the most touching and thoughtful gifts I’ve had the honor to witness on a wedding day. Needless to say, we were all in tears.

Before heading out for portraits, Chelsie (aka Flowerchild Florals) dropped off our grooms’ boutonnieres and the most epic Midsommar inspired flower crowns fit for kings. Every single time I work with Chelsie, her talent blows me away. From the floral crowns, to the lush ceremony arch that was repurposed for the reception, to the modern, minimal table decor of votive candles and bud vases, Chelsie’s floral design created a romantic atmosphere.

The day continued on with more sweet moments, like right after their ceremony where it hit they were married. Luis grabbed Shane’s face, both with eyes full of happy tears, and said “We’re married! You’re my husband!” Every time I look at these photos, I feel their joy.
